Our History
At a time in history when many infants and young children were neglected, abandoned or left parentless because of their own and/or their parents' HIV infection, a group of concerned individuals came together to provide a home to these vulnerable children.
In August 1991, The Children's Place Association opened its doors as the Midwest's first residential facility dedicated to the care of HIV/AIDS-affected children.
Today, this Residential Center continues to offer 24-hour nursing care and other specialized treatment for children.
While the face of the HIV/AIDS epidemic has changed over the past two decades, The Children's Place Association has adapted programs and services to continue to meet the needs of our children and their families.
- 1993 – In-home respite care, case management, mental-health counseling, and summer day camp.
- 1994 – Foster Care and Adoption Program
- 1998 – The Arthur E. Jones Early Childhood Care and Learning Center opened.
- 2007 – Children's Place International launched in response to the growing number children around the world affected by HIV/AIDS.
The Children's Place Association continues to evolve with the HIV/AIDS epidemic in order to provide programs and services that meet the needs of children, youth and families confronted by HIV/AIDS.
