Dear Friends,
During this holiday time of giving and gifting, we’d like to share a story with you about the kind of “gift” Children’s Place Association provides.
We met Tamara, a mother of two boys, at a low point in her life. She was already struggling with health and economic issues when the unthinkable happened–her older son Khalid, was shot and killed after witnessing a crime in their West Side Chicago neighborhood. He was 15. Africa’s depression from the death led to homelessness for her family.
Then, Children’s Place stepped in. We enrolled her surviving son, Mohammed, in our Head Start early education program… and provided supportive housing for the family. And we connected Tamara with mental health services to cope with the trauma. Today, Tamara’s family has sustained a home, and Mohammed is excelling at a selective enrollment school.
Tamara’s story is such a wonderful example of the positive impact we’ve been bringing to Chicago’s marginalized communities for the last 30 years. Each day, we continue driving our mission forward to help those who are disenfranchised, affected by trauma, and simply not connected to the same resources in life that many of us can count on.
As you can see in our latest Impact Report, 2021 was a year well-spent lifting up others. But we can’t do our good work alone. We rely on you to partner with us to help make a difference for hundreds of kids and families with circumstances stacked against them.
In the true spirit of the season, we know that “there but for fortune go you or I.” So, we ask, on our 30th anniversary, that you support the work of Children’s Place Association by making a contribution today. Please give others hope and enable them to change their lives.
Warmly,
Cathy Krieger
