Join journalist, filmmaker, and author of the bestseller ‘There Are No Children Here’ – Alex Kotlowitz – from the comfort of your home on Thursday evening, April 29th for Children’s Place Association’s Annual Gala. For over 40 years, Kotlowitz has been telling stories of struggle and perseverance from the heart of America.

Alex will discuss finding empathy through the power of stories. He will share accounts of those touched by gun violence in Chicago neighborhoods – and the love and forgiveness he’s witnessed in the aftermath in these communities.

Alex will be joined by Maria Woltjen, Founder and Executive Director of the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights, who will talk about the importance of listening to vulnerable children and their families to better understand their lives. According to Maria, “In order to help these children, we must first understand what they want and what their families want… we have to take our lead from them and guard against imposing what we think is best.”

Join Alex, Maria, and others for this powerful hour on April 29th to celebrate Children’s Place Association’s 30th Anniversary, and learn, listen and participate in being a champion for Chicago’s most vulnerable kids.
