We are in full swing of our Child Thrive Mini-Camps and our campers are all having a great time.
In July, our campers, who have ranged from 8 to 13, have learned basketball skills, Double Dutch skills, and ended the month with a game extravaganza of card, board, and action games.
We have also started our partnership programming with JPA – a social/emotional wellness program. The first one was for grades 3 to 5 and helped the campers design their own business.
Our double Dutch campers started out the three days barely able to jump in or jump consistently. By the end of day 3, the campers were jumping in, doing tricks in the rope, and still jumping while the turnings rotated around them.
This month, the fun doesn’t let up as our campers just finished an intro to video editing class. Check the video link below to see what they created!
Mindful Art for Kids: Create, De-Stress and Express
August 10 – 12, 11AM – 12:30 PM
Campers will make nature-inspired art, talking sticks, gratitude stones, breathing wands, relaxation bottles, dream collages, mindful treasure chests and more! No art experience is necessary.
Creation Station II: Woodworking
August 17 – 19, 11 AM – 12:30 PM
In this camp, kids will learn how to build cool, wooden projects. Participants will be taught how to safely use carpentry tools, how to measure, assemble, and paint their own masterpieces to take home!
Creation Station IV: The Power of Songwriting
August 24 – 27, 11 AM – 12:30 PM
This mini-camp will be the start of digging deeper to understand the power and excitement of creating music. Campers will be collectively building a song with pre-recorded lyrics and instrumental loops. all while learning new music vocabulary and beginning to discover how music has the power to touch your emotions without your permission.

Hip Hop Poetry in Action (Grades 6-8)
August 4 & 11, 1:00 – 2:30 PM
Explore the power of hip-hop lyrics to tell personal stories. Youth will create their own poems to set to music
The Chicago Flag Family Event
August 18, 1:00 – 2:30 PM
Exploring the art and symbols of the Chicago flag, children and their families explore the symbols and artwork of our city. Families work together to create their own flags using symbols that represent what is important to them!
